«GREEN HUB» IN MONTICELLO

The project was created in an atelier of Politecnico di Torino for exploring, comparing and analysis of some municipalities in Lombardia region and the future development of one site of them.

The project building is an abandoned and partly destroyed rural house, located in the southern part of Monticello municipality. The site is situated on the border of “Parco della Valletta” - a big natural resource.

The aim is to bring people of Monticello and guests of the municipalities to enjoy its landscapes and local products.

municipalities analysis

the starting point of the project was the analysis of 5 municipalities in the Lombardy region, where the main focus was on the population data, services and mobility in terms of social and economic sustainability. Monticello municipality was taken as a site for further project development for more detailed consideration

- in the complex work of site visiting and territory analysis for the project it was decided to choose the abandoned rural building which is located in a strategic position

- to find more attraction for the future location boosting, the non-urbanized green area of Valletta Park was explored for integration in the project strategies

project programmes

• 0 km market

Lombardy is the first region for the production of food goods. In Monticello there are many producers but the lack of local markets to sell them. To solve this problem, part of the space will host a 0km market. Vegetables, wine, honey, cheese and other local products will be sold directly to the customers

• Laboratory

On the upper floor of the market, different experiences and activities will be held. This allows the producers to explain to the consumer the value and the chain production of their local products

• Restaurant and cafe

The 0 km market will supply the restaurant cafe Some basic products, such as spices can also grow in the big green area

• Bike rent

A bike rental service is provided at the starting point of the paths, this will give everyone the chance to live the park experience. Changing rooms and services are also available

• Valletta educational centre

Space to educate and spread awareness about ecology in general, and the park in particular

• Hostel

The shared hostel rooms make it possible for the visitors to spend multiple nights in the Cascina and enjoy more of the area’s activities
